■Anthoney Monett

Osu to all,

Today, we would like to give special recognition to one of our students, Anthony Monette. ?“Bunbu ryodo” is an old Japanese description of a scholar athlete.?Many believe it's nearly impossible to attain this position. ?However, it becomes possible by applying the Kyokushin Karate principles. ?

Anthony Monette (4 times US Weight Category Campion 2007,08,09 & 2010) 2kyu has accomplished the “Bunbu Ryodo” status this summer. ?

Anthony, at age 14, attended Antelope Valley College this summer. He took two classes and passed both gaining 6 units for college and 20 credits for high school. ?It's a true display of dedication by Anthony, as well as his father.Kyokushin Karate of Los Angeles is proud to have Anthony as its student. Many congratulations to him!

■Testuma Freshman @ Bridge USA Summer Fest essay - Tetsuma Ozawa

My experience of volunteer at the tournament is that they need a lot of help to make the tournament happen. When the tournament begins lot of kids in different size is fighting hardest they can.
The people who is cheering for the fighter are cheering so hard like they are fighting by just cheering. When they are done fighting, some people happy because they won, or crying because they were disappointed of themselves. By knowing at lot of different emotion, I sometime feel the same way as they do.
I know that either you win or lose you go out on the stage you are leaning a good lesson. If you win you will learn that you could use that combo, and when you lose you learn to not to do that again, and how you can improve.
But the best way to learn what to do the next time is when you lose, and understand why you did lose. When you lose but didn’t understand why, you won’t learn that much. The tournament is not only to win and lose, but it is all about testing your skills. When you test your skills, and win first place, that means you have good skills.
To make all the things happen you need lot of people like the judge, fighter, couple of people to call up people, and who keep track of who won, and who lost. People shall be proud of them self for volunteer at the tournament. Imagine when there is no volunteer to help the judge, and call you up, you will not know when to go up to fight, and who wins or loses. If you don’t win or lose, it will be just a fight with no rules because there is no judge to explain to the fighters. I think if I wasn’t there, and nobody to replace me there will be a full of people back stage because I was guarding the back stage door. The best part of volunteer people is lunch time because I got free food that taste good. When you have your friend with you on the same job to guard the door it is better than staying alone because I had someone to talk with, and tell me what’s happening in that fight if I can’t see the fight. That was I felt to be one of the volunteer people.

■Soichiro got TWO 1ST PLACE!

We had only one competitor sent to “All American Open 2009 Karate Championships” http://www.kyokushinkarate.com/ this year from our Dojo.

The ONE COMPETITOR end up coming back with TWO 1ST PLACE TROPHIES.

No one from Kyokushin LA Dojo has never brought two champion title from one tournament before. Soichiro Sasaki (Torrance Dojo)did extremely good job this time.

He fought in 10 years old category Kumite/also participated in Youth Kata competition.

His Kata competition result ?in a morning were very outstanding. His Kata score was very high compare to the other competitors so that when the judges put the scores up,

audiences were ohhing and ahhing.

His Kumite fight had even more noise from audiences because his favorite technique Kaiten do-mawashi (rolling head kick) was delivered to his opponent soon after the fight start(waza-ari).

His final fight was two waza-ari by him so finished with ippon(KO).

Many of the adult top fighters from all over the world, Sensei, Shihan from Japan recognize him as a “little strong kid from LA”.

Congratulations Soichiro!!!

They both did extension and fought very well with top fighter in Canada. It was very valuable experience.

Tournament was organized well and LA fighters had a very good experience. We definitely wants to come back again with more fighters.

Freshman Tournament (Taisho Muto )

I attended the US weight cateory last Junuary but I lost even the first match. I strongly thought I want to win next time.
So I have trained very hard not only at the Tustin dojo but also at other dojos, and with my brother even at home Finally I could win the 1st place at the Freshman tournament. I'm very happy.

-----------------------------------------
Freshman Tournament (Tokio Shimamura)

I got 1st place in the
intermediate “Kata” division at the 13th
Freshman Tournament. It makes me happy
and proud of myself. To win, I attended every
class I could. At dojo, I listened and watched
carefully what Sensei or Senpai taught. Also
I practiced at home. My mom watched me and
gave some comments, and sometimes, my big
brother showed me the details. Watching DVD of
other tournaments was very helpful for image
training. At the competition, I paid attention so
that my punch or kick looked sharp. And, I tried
to perform just like fighting with my real opponent.
I keep practicing hard, and next time (or in the future)
I want to get 8.0 as score.
